MY – is Malaysia’s national top-level domain (ccTLD). MY is the country code used in the Internet domain name system to denote resources connected with Malaysia. It is managed by the MYNIC registry. For a long time, registration in the .MY zone was available only to Malaysian residents and companies. However, since summer 2024 the policy has changed: second-level domains (.my) can now be registered by anyone without geographic restrictions. This led to sharp growth in the zone — by July 2025 it had more than 675,000 names, almost double what it had at the start of the year.
Registration of MY domains is automatic, but the registry sets a number of restrictions. It is forbidden to use words that could be considered obscene, offensive, or contrary to Malaysian societal norms. Also reserved are country names, names of Malaysian states, government terms, names of royal family members, religious terms, and the names of financial organizations. In addition, the MYNIC registry has introduced restrictions on domain registration for individuals and organizations from Israel.
The MY domain control panel lets you change contacts, configure NS servers, and renew the domain. WHOIS privacy (Privacy Protection) is not available for .MY domains.
You can buy a MY domain for a term of 1 to 10 years. After the registration period ends, the domain enters a waiting period during which it can be renewed or restored. The exact terms and restoration cost depend on the current MYNIC registry policy.
